Thank you for this wake-up to Tom Stoddart. Although he is gone, his work provides a living link to fine and sensitive photojournalism that stands as well as fine art photography.

I have used Tom Stoddarts photographs to demonstrate how great composition can elevate an image and give power and poignancy to the subject. I remember showing students some his shots from Sudan and getting them to think about the preassure he was under whilst producing the most incredible, beautifully composed, images. What an incredible talent he was, every bit as good as Salgado, who I also love for his compassion. Stoddarts record of life during my generation is an astonishing legacy. Thanks for reminding me.
