Fascinating project by Tom Kiefer.
El Sueño Americano / The American Dream is a photographic documentation of the personal belongings carried by migrants and asylum seekers seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at a processing facility near the U.S./Mexico border in southwest Arizona.
Thank you, Jim Pojman, for recommending his work.
Until next time,
Tomasz
Scrolling over the images and seeing how they were discarded is heartbreaking. And truly moving. Thank you so much for posting this Tomasz
Simple but powerful and deeply moving as all these objects are ones we share, in the main, daily need or use of - making it impossible to experience viewing them (along with the superimposed notes) as simply about looking at some photographs. Its a simple story on one level but the impact of seeing it is another altogether. I can, and do, admire the creative arrangement, colour decisions etc but the rejected objects could also be tossed in heaps and the message would still comes across - though the neatness also, paradoxically, sets a brutal categorising of lives against the obvious care of an artist handling rejected objects far more kindly than their owners were.
