Every Sunday, I contact photographers previously featured on PHOTOSNACK and ask them to send me their spontaneous thoughts, observations, reflections, or advice.
Today, I am sharing the messages I received from Carla Kogelman and Harald Altmaier.
Carla Kogelman
The first time we met was in 2012; since then, we have met every summer in rural Austria.
Celine from Austria identifies herself as non-binary and trans-masculine: “A few years ago, I started to flatten my breast, and it felt so damn good. I'm still figuring everything out, and I hope one day I can start my transition too; please call me Logan, my chosen name.’’

Harald Altmaier
I’m a fine art photographer known for cinematic visual storytelling and detailed images.
My series, Eternal Bloom, is inspired by the grandeur, style, and storytelling of the 17th-century Dutch master floral still-life paintings.
There are hardly any limits to showcasing artistic creativity and coloristic finesse when it comes to arranging flowering garden roses.
Set among exquisite damask silks and adorned with antique books, objects, and ripe fruit, the life and demise of this queen of flowers are depicted in this artwork.
However, decades of experience working in bespoke floristry are of no help in fine art photography when light is not used to its full potential.
Composition XIV, like 95% of my all floral artworks, is entirely lit by natural daylight.
The final capture of the image usually takes place in the afternoon and can take several hours. Translucent diffusion paper and large foam boards are used to guide and soften the light rays.
Harsh burnt-out highlights are reduced by using several layers of this paper, the texture is accentuated, and the darkest shadows are naturally reduced by using hand-held reflectors. The reflectors are then used to paint existing light back into the shadowy and dark areas of the compositions during their long exposures to achieve a harmonious painterly effect.
Each project begins with a concept, meticulously planning every element to ensure a compelling narrative. A high-resolution medium-format camera is essential for capturing clarity and detail. This combination of meticulous light management and equipment brings these compositions to life.
Fine art photography offers creative freedom to express complex emotions and narratives. Seeing viewers engage with my work is a profound reward and worth all the endless hours of hard work.

Sunday Editions connect you with photographers whose work you previously explored through PHOTOSNACK.
I want to reveal some authentic parts of the people behind the cameras.
I don't ask them any specific questions. I ask them to share whatever comes to mind when they think about YOU, the newsletter readers.
It makes their responses genuine and personal.
I hope you enjoyed today's Sunday Edition.
Until next time,
Tomasz
