Every Sunday, I reach out to photographers previously featured on PHOTOSNACK and ask them to send me their spontaneous thoughts, observations, reflections, or advice.
Today, I am sharing with you the messages I got from Ben Zank and Dave Brosha.
Ben Zank
I'm not naturally good at things.
It takes me having a strong interest in improving and a lot of hard work to see progress. Without passion or even obsession, I can't focus on a task.
This was no different for photography. When I first started taking pictures, I was not happy with the work I was doing, so I embarked on a photo-a-day project that lasted almost two years.
I used to think that I needed to learn all the rules of photography to make a career out of it, and that would stress me out. I did learn the basics, but mostly, I've managed to create my own rules that match my innate lack of greater understanding of the medium.

And this is a link to his newest book.
Dave Brosha
One of the most powerful pieces of advice I ever got on this photography journey was to stop shooting for the "single wins" (i.e., social media photos that might "do well") and instead focus on well-rounded bodies of work or themes.
This changed my photography career and has made me so much happier on this beautiful journey. I love exploring stories and being able to focus my efforts on telling well-rounded stories, regardless of genre.
Dave Brosha was featured in PHOTOSNACK #167.
Sunday Editions connect you with photographers whose work you previously explored through PHOTOSNACK.
I want to reveal some authentic parts of the people behind the cameras.
I don’t ask them any specific questions. I ask them to share whatever pops into their mind when thinking about YOU - the readers of this newsletter.
It makes their responses genuine and personal.
I hope you enjoyed today’s Sunday Edition.
Until next time,
Tomasz
Elevates my Sunday morning and always inspires me to get out (or stay in) and make more photographs, thank you!
Love the idea of focusing on a well rounded body of work! Excellent advice!
