Thank you Tomasz for your deeply true words. I share every single one. Couldn‘t say it better. One of the best and inspiring fotographs of all time is gone.
I have been passionate about photography since 12 years old and I can honestly say that no single photographer, and there are many great ones, touched me like Sebastiao Salgado. One of my measures of photographic excellence is how long a photograph retains my attention. His photography always stopped me in my tracks, not only visually but emotionally. No words were needed to be expressed but his photographs spoke loud and clear. Truly one of the historic. great photographers.
Thanks for posting this. I too mourn the passing of this man, this tiny man who saw so deeply. I have spent the night pouring through GENESIS…it inspires me daily. He made the world a better place.
Lovely post for a sad time, a photographer who contributed so much and influenced so many. My whole view of photography changed when I saw an exhibition of photos from his “Workers” series and that lead me to delve deeper into his work.
Over the years we’ve gotten to know and appreciate your ‘photographic’ eye, a unique one. With this tribute written to one of the photographic ‘greats’, if not the greatest of them all, Sebastião Salgado, you’ve now opened and shared your noble heart too: as true and heart-felt an obituary to a wonderful teacher and human as we’re ever likely to see or read. Thank you for representing us all.
A very thoughtful and well put together post. Thank you for saying what I was feeling and more. I was lucky to see him talk in Birmingham Uk, the experience was almost spiritual. His photography, words and approach to the world won’t be matched.
He saw for all of us. His vision is a lesson of "in sight". A very singular record of our world as the 20th Century ended and the first quarter of 21st Century brings us to the awesome consideration of how our species Genesis story will end. No species has ever had the opportunity to the part choice of when they will cease to be. He turned his camera to the question.

Thank you Tomasz,
he was a great example for me. Saw the film Das Salz der Erde (2014) and own his book Genesis! Great things to remember an extraordinary photographer.
What a beautiful tribute, Tomasz! Thanks for sharing this. Rest in Peace, Mestre!
Heartfelt and true. Thank you.
