Hauntingly raw and beautiful.

"We have lived together for ten years, but he has only seen me through the lens... I believe that all the photographs of me were unquestionably photos of himself."

Yoko's words add heartbreaking complexity to the images. No longer just portraits of her, they're self-portraits of his longing.

How can an impression of the author be formed by looking at small pictures on Instagram or flipping through a book on YouTube?

These are usually just the entry points, followed by deeper looks at their books, at their stories, exhibitions...

I wasn’t very familiar with Fukase’s work, and your description genuinely sparked my curiosity.

I’m struck by his ability to turn such personal pain into powerful, poetic images.

It’s an approach I feel close to, because I believe that part of photography comes from what we carry within ourselves.

Thank you, Tomasz, for bringing his name to my attention, I’ll definitely explore his work further.
