I normally need staged photography to give me something more than impressive production, and Julia Fullerton-Batten's work does.
Her lighting, locations, and carefully directed figures often make the photographs feel like single frames removed from films whose stories we have to invent ourselves. I like that there is usually some tension in them—something beautiful and strange at the same time.
