Jane Bown
PHOTOSNACK #774
Jane Bown’s black-and-white photographs are quiet, simple, and deeply honest, shaped by natural light and an extraordinary sensitivity to people and everyday situations.
A wonderful place to explore her work is the National Portrait Gallery’s online collection, which reveals the full range of her photography beyond just portraits.
Thank you, Mark Darbin, for recommending her work.
Until next time,
Tomasz

There’s an exhibition of her work at Newlands House gallery in Petworth at the moment.
I have a wonderful book of Jane's portraits "Portraits / Jane Bown" by Chatto & Windus, London, 1986/1987. It's lovely and I have used it for inspiration several times.
