Bottle kilns were typical of the industrial landscape of Stoke-on-Trent, where nearly 50 are preserved as listed buildings. They were primarily built in the later 18th and 19th centuries, although the surviving ones include examples from the 20th century.
British photographer James Baker embarked on a project to document these structures.
Thank you, Frances Baker, for recommending your father’s work.
Until next time,
Tomasz

The documentary impulse is well done
