Hoda Afshar is particularly interesting when you look at how she uses photography to question photography itself.

Portraits can be beautifully controlled, but light, landscape, and staging continually complicate what appears documentary. I like that tension: her images often resemble evidence whose certainty begins quietly dissolving the longer you examine it.
