George Steinmetz
PHOTOSNACK #764
George Steinmetz’s work comes from a deep curiosity about how the world really works, moving effortlessly between vast landscapes and close human presence. His photographs feel exploratory and thoughtful, more about understanding the planet than simply showing it.
Thank you, Howard Schatz, for recommending his work.
Until next time,
Tomasz

A really indispensable compendium of fine photographs. I paid particular attention to the China series which impresses with its convincing illustrations of just how advanced and gigantic this economy has become. Anyone who wants to better visualize what China means to the world these days would do well to look at these photographs. having been there years ago, I was also interested in George's Libya gallery, where his photos of the ancient civilization there capture the atmosphere so well.
I like his work - this really Epic Planet, but I have just a little comment.
He has said in his series "The Human Planet": "Earth at the Dawn of the Anthropocene is a visual chronicle of how humans have come to be the dominant force shaping our planet". That's not correct because humans haven't come to be the dominant; humans were the dominant from the beginning. This is why the Lord has granted many things to humans, and many things the Nature forgives them.
