This is the 600th edition of PHOTOSNACK.
Six hundred short reflections, six hundred chances to pause and look a little closer at the world through other photographers’ eyes.
Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just recently joined, thank you for being part of this quiet habit.
To mark the occasion, let’s do something a little different.
Here are seven “600s” from the world of photography — some technical, some historical, some just fun:
1. Polaroid 600
Launched in 1981, this iconic instant film made snapshots feel like magic. Still going strong today thanks to instant photography lovers around the world.
2. Canon EOS 600
Released in 1989, this autofocus SLR helped shape the future of Canon’s camera design — fast, reliable, and built for serious image-making.
3. 600mm Lens
Long. Heavy. Powerful. This is the lens used by those who wait: wildlife photographers, sports shooters, and anyone chasing distant details.
4. 600 Megapixels (Sort of)
It’s often said that the human eye sees the world at the equivalent of around 576–600 megapixels. In other words, you’re walking around with one of the best cameras ever made.
5. 600 BCE
The earliest known writings about the principle of the camera obscura date back to around 600 BCE, thanks to Chinese philosopher Mozi. A reminder that the idea of “light painting” has deep roots.
6. ISO 600 (in spirit)
There’s no standard ISO 600 in most cameras, but slide some film in the wrong light or push your sensor past its comfort zone — and you’ll find yourself improvising with something that feels like ISO 600. Sometimes the best results happen right there.
7. 600 PHOTOSNACKS Later…
And of course — this one. A quiet celebration of small consistency. Thank you for opening, reading, and sharing these weekly photography notes over the years. It means more than you might think.
Until next time,
Tomasz
I celebrate your 600th (yes, SIX HUNDRED!) post on Photosnack, Tomasz. 🎉👏
Tomasz’s mission is to showcase and shine a light on the creative work of one talented photographer at a time. Can you feel the generosity of spirit in that? In a world of “I, ME, MINE”, Tomasz stands out as a fine example of another way of doing ‘social media’. Let’s all try to follow his lead just a little bit. We’ll ALL be better off if we do!
Congratulations and thank you. Yours is one of the most informative and useful photography substacks.
