Mitch Epstein makes photographs that I can enjoy visually before I even begin thinking about what they mean. Nature, industry, architecture, and American society constantly collide in his work, sometimes within a single frame.
I particularly like that his photographs can address large subjects—power, land, politics, environmental change—without becoming illustrations of an argument.
