I find Cara Romero’s digitally staged portraits compelling: she blends Indigenous narratives with vibrant color and theatrical composition.
Her images are like cultural myths reimagined in modern form.

“Miktlanziwatl” (Lady of Death) is a ‘must see’ every time I visit the Minneapolis Institute of Art. (Which is often.) Even better is exploring the collection, being drawn to a piece, and discovering it to be a previously unknown (to me) Romero.
